Oh what a night!

My night wasn't as fun as you'd think. Jamie my daughter boyfriend informed me in the early evening last night there was thunderstorms on the way! I thought omg it can't be happening again. It seems for the last 2 months we have a thunderstorm every few days. I knew there wasn't any sleep for the weary again. Newton my lab/collie mix who is going on 11 years old and weights over 80 pounds is extremely terrified of thunder. In turn has made my 2 year old 14 pounds Lapso Cody feeling the same way only in the last 2 weeks. Before Cody would just look out the window and enjoy natures fireworks going off . But seeing Newton climbing me like a mountain time and time again has throw Cody in the same mood mode as big brother!

So all night long I had Newton pushing my bed around the room or trying to get up on me to protect him from the big bad booms! He was pushing my bed across the room from trying to get his huge frame under the bed. Down goes my end table I get out of bed fix everything and start all over again. I gave up after 5 times. (I know I should of left it the second time)

Cody whined until I brought him up on the bed had to hold him like a baby. While trying to calm the poor old boy from going into a full blown panic attack. I'm sure he was in one with all the panting going on. Causing more of a heat way in the room since I had to shut all window to muffle some of the noises from all the thunder blasts. I was just about to go pack a bag and jump a train to anywhere but here when the noises started to stop at 6 am. I looked outside and it was raining lightly so I open the window to a wonderful sweet smelling breeze. They both finally fell into dreamland so I dozed off thinking finally I can get some well deserved sleep. Wrong!!! At 7:10 am the contractor from the darkside showed up with their noisy loud stinky trucks to hall away the soil they shouldn't of brought over in the first place. So the noise started again but this time it was the dogs barking, truck running, loader banging and the banging of the back flap of the trucks!!

So I shut the windows, calmed down the dogs once again. Laid there staring at the ceiling wondering why? But just figure why not me. lol You wanna know what had gotten me the maddest out of all of this. My husband came home from being on the road for a week and sleep through the whole thing!!!!!

When he woke up he just looked at me and I told him the night I had. He just looked at me like "I didn't hear a thing why are you so upset"! As I was writting this I heard on the weather channel more thunderstorms are on there way. Tonight I think I'm moving to motel but not telling anyone!!

Anywho if you can't sleep just come on over I'm always up even when I don't want to be. I'm sure you'll get tired in no time. You'll go home and have a wonderful sleep and I'll night dream about the old time when I would dream with my eye close instead of open!! lol

When we were kids we used to sit up and watch the storms. We loved it. Now I'm one of those who sleeps through them. Maybe our Upper Peninsula storms aren't as bad as yours. Dr. John sent me too.

Have a good sleep tonight!

I've always been scared of Thunder Boomers too, especially the ones that sneak in during the night as I sleep. The afternoon ones, still bother me a little but not as much as overnighters.

Hehe, I thought of getting a hotel room for a weekend to escape too! But for some reason I know with my luck the room next to mine would be rented out a bunch of rowdy's and I'll still not get a good nights sleep.

Take care!

haha, I know it isn't funny, but the picture of the dog pushing your bed around trying to find comfort is so funny. I know the hate thunder, mine whines and whines and puts his face under his paws, tries to climb under me. So pathetic.....even the cat goes crazy, and the bird. Yes, same thing. We have a thunder storm everynight, just about six, I can just about clock it.

So this one really made me smile.

i am up all night also, wish I had an up all night neighbor to come over and have coffee with me. hmmmmmmmm coffee, maybe that is why I am up all night.....haha

I LOVE thunderstorms! I don't know why, but they relax me. I often will sit on my porch (It;s a covered proch) and watch the storms. Once in a while they'll scare me, if they are really bad ones.

Your poor doggies! My dog is afraid of them also, but she'll just cuddle up next to me, she doesn't move furniture!!

Hi Cherlee, I can't even laugh about this because I have two large, older dogs and they both have horrible anxiety attacks when it storms, so I feel your pain! One thing I've found that calms them down is Kava Kava. We usually give them 2 capsules wrapped in a small piece of bread and it helps like you would not believe.

A few years ago it was taken off the market here in the US for what reason I don't recall, but can now be purchased again in some stores http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=NO-1375 so you may want to take a look near you and see if you're able to find it. Our vet gave us the okay saying it wouldn't hurt and if it helped, why not!

Best of luck to you and the dogs -they do feed off one another, don't they?
