Why do kids think they are invincible

Melanie and her boyfriend Jamie informed me yesterday. That a kid they know 17 years old died Friday night. He was drinking and took his parents car and somehow ended up in a area with a lake drove in it and drowned. No one had seen him since 10 pm Friday night. Someone found him 7 am Saturday morning! I asked if he was depressed but was informed that he was just drunk and did weird stuff when he was drinking.
Why do kids think they are invincible. They get drunk and think no one can touch them. Or get high and think they are on top of the world. Where they can't be reach until they decide to come down themselves. Sometimes coming down isn't what they thought it would be. It seems funny since my daughter's been 16 she buried 3 of her friends now there is a fourth. This is sad and scary at the same time.

When I was 15 a friend died at the age 16 his name was David. It was a good friend of mine cousin. He and his bestfriend M ( I'll call him M) were getting high. David wanted to call his girl and M said "I'll get my dad's gun if you call her. " As they both were laughing away. Of course they thought it was funny David and M continued to get high then David said I'm calling my girl. Then M went in his father closet pulled out the gun didn't check to see if there was a bullet in the gun and went out to where David was. David pick up the phone. M said "Hang up"! Laughing still. David started to dial his friend cocked the gun. As David girlfriend started to talk on the other line M fired as they were laughing away. David's girlfriend heard the shot on the other end of the phone she was horrified. M didn't laugh for long because he shot David between the eyes. The fun was over M had to deal with his death. He is still dealing with David death! The reason I know the story first hand is the girlfriend confirmed that they were both laughing and joking when she spoke to David a couple time that night. She confirmed that she heard M say hang up or I'll shoot. She heard them both laughing. She was angry but she told the truth that it wasn't a on purpose. Then 4 years after David's death. M showed up at my house with my brother Mike. I was surprise to see him. I was so angry I thought you have nerve to kill someone and go on with your life. Also he was with my brother. This terrified me. Until I sat down with him and point blank asked him what happened. I walked in my bother's room and said " How could you shot David in the head and have nerve to come into my home. He was surprise because I never met him. I knew of him and his name. His name had been etched into my mind cause I was still good friends with David's cousin and she spoke of David often. She was having a hard time dealing with his death. Angie and David were great friends along with being cousin's. She missed him a lot.

When M told his story the pain in his eyes and voice along with the tears told me he was suffering more than I could ever know. I had hated this kid for so long I didn't realize that he was being punished more than anyone could ever imagine. I know he still is to this day. I don't know If I could ever be able to handle what had happen to him. I started to see things in a different light. But it made me realize that I wasn't as invincible as I thought. I just wish kids these days can really look around them and see that life is to short to put yourself in a situation that can wipe you off the earth in seconds.

Party have fun but please be safe. Don't take your life or other's in your own hands. It's not worth the pain and sorrow to yourself and others

It's a horrible thing... I just hope people learn from others mistakes.
I also wish I got a better chance to get to know Gil better. But at least I have the few memories I have of him.
